Sensible DNA lab

The PGTB’s containment laboratory is dedicated to the study of environmental DNA and ‘sensitive’ samples (wood, herbarium specimens, etc.). This laboratory is equipped with cleanrooms featuring filtered air, positive pressure and UV radiation. It also has a particle counter to detect and quantify airborne particles. Furthermore, to prevent external contamination, staff and users of these laboratories must adhere to specific protocols for this type of analysis and wear appropriate protective equipment.

The environmental DNA analysis laboratory is housed in a separate building to prevent any contamination from the PGTB’s ‘conventional’ laboratories. This laboratory comprises an airlock and three rooms fully equipped with molecular biology equipment:

  • a sample preparation room (transferring samples into tubes or plates, grinder, etc.)
  • a DNA extraction room (extraction using tubes and plates with commercial kits)
  • a room for preparing PCR mixes and Illumina sequencing libraries

Contact us to come and use this laboratory to carry out your extractions, PCR preparations or Illumina sequencing libraries under conditions that are ideal for your samples and data.
